Adobe's AI Upscaling: Turning Blurry into HD

Say goodbye to blurry videos!

Adobe is making waves in the tech world with their latest generative AI model, VideoGigaGAN. This innovative tool can upscale videos to an astonishing eight times their original resolution, without any of the usual AI-induced visual distortions.

VideoGigaGAN is the superhero of video upscaling. It's a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN), a type of AI that's fantastic at upscaling still images. But here's the kicker: it can do the same for videos without causing any annoying flickering or unwanted artefacts.

So, how does it work? The magic lies in its ability to provide the best of both worlds. It delivers the high-quality imagery of GAN models, minus the distortion issues that often plague output frames. Adobe has even shared some examples of its work, showcasing the impressive resolution in full swing.

The results are nothing short of remarkable. Some finer details, like skin texture and creases, appear entirely artificial yet incredibly natural. It's hard to believe that generative AI was used to enhance the resolution. This breakthrough could potentially spark a debate extending the "what is a photo" question to include video.

But don't get too excited just yet. VideoGigaGAN is still in its research preview stage, meaning there's no guarantee it'll be available to consumers via Adobe's Creative Cloud software like Premiere Pro. However, it's worth noting that Adobe isn't alone in this endeavour. Both Microsoft and Nvidia are also developing their own Video Super Resolution (VSR) upscaling technology.

In the meantime, we can only dream of a world where all videos are HD, thanks to Adobe's VideoGigaGAN. Watch this space!
