OpenAI's popular AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT, has just received a major upgrade.

OpenAI announced that premium ChatGPT users, including those subscribing to ChatGPT Plus, Team or Enterprise, can now enjoy an enhanced version of GPT-4 Turbo, the model that powers the conversational ChatGPT experience.

This new model, aptly named "gpt-4-turbo-2024-04-09", offers improvements in writing, math, logical reasoning, and coding. OpenAI also claims it has a more up-to-date knowledge base, having been trained on publicly available data up to December 2023. This is a significant leap from the previous edition of GPT-4 Turbo available in ChatGPT, which only had data up until April 2023.

The new update promises more direct, less verbose responses from ChatGPT, using more conversational language. This is a considerable shift from the previous versions, making interactions with the AI more natural and fluid.

This update comes at a crucial time for OpenAI, following the general availability launch of new models in OpenAI’s API. Notably, this includes GPT-4 Turbo with Vision, which adds image understanding capabilities to the typically text-only GPT-4 Turbo.

However, it's not all smooth sailing for OpenAI. Recent reports revealed that Microsoft pitched OpenAI’s DALL-E text-to-image model as a battlefield tool for the U.S. military. Furthermore, OpenAI reportedly fired two researchers, including an ally of chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, for alleged information leaks. Despite these challenges, OpenAI continues to innovate, pushing the boundaries of AI technology.
