Video of the Week: 'The Scream' by Imaginae Studios

If, like me, you know a few iconic paintings - but not nearly enough, really - you'll probably recognise 'The Scream' from Edvard Munch.
Short of its almost shameful minimisation into an emoticon - 😱 - I've not really considered its impact, history or the artist's intentions at the time. Which is what makes this AI video from Imaginae Studios so compelling.
I've been to art galleries and desultorily plugged in some audio as I've wandered around. But none has been able to combine the artist's actual words with the powerful animation of the painting itself.
This is the kind of animation that makes you look forward to the next ones. Da Vinci's 'Mona Lisa'. Hopper's 'Nighthawks'. Renoir's 'Luncheon of the Boating People'. Each of these could open up a compelling backstory - or not! You might agree with the preposition of Imaginae Studio's take on this classic or you might actually want to argue a point or two. But, without getting too farty about it, this is how art comes alive again for those that never visit a gallery.
I think it's a truly powerful AI-generated piece of art around a human-generated piece of art. Bravo.
