Are you feeling a bit jittery about AI snatching away your job?

Well, a new alliance of tech giants might just put your mind at ease. Say hello to the AI-Enabled ICT Workforce Consortium (ITC), a group led by Cisco and backed by the likes of Google, Microsoft, IBM, Intel, SAP and Accenture.

Their mission? To debunk the myth that AI is the Grim Reaper of jobs, and instead, promote the importance of re-skilling and upskilling within the information and communication technology (ICT) industry.

The ITC's game plan involves researching AI's impact on specific job roles, recommending relevant training, and connecting businesses with skilled, job-ready workers. They've got their eyes on 56 strategic ICT job roles for their initial phase of work, with the aim of understanding AI's influence on these roles and providing training suggestions.

So, what's the catch? Well, the ITC's roadmap beyond this first phase is a bit hazy, and their success will hinge on delivering more than just promises and reports. However, with ambitious goals of impacting over 95 million individuals globally through skills development and training programs over the next decade, they're certainly not lacking in ambition.

While the demand for AI roles may be decreasing according to some reports, the ITC remains committed to developing worker pathways in sectors that will increasingly integrate AI technology. So, let's wait and watch as this consortium strives to turn the tide on AI job takeover fears and instead, harness the power of AI to create a more skilled workforce.
