Lights, camera, deepfake?

Not so fast!

YouTube is stepping up its game to help creators manage AI-generated content featuring their likeness. Starting today, creators in YouTube’s Partner Program can access a nifty new AI detection feature. This tool allows them to spot and report unauthorized uploads that might be using their face without permission.

Here’s how it works: After verifying their identity, creators can dive into the Content Detection tab on YouTube Studio. If they stumble upon a suspicious video that looks like an AI-generated doppelgänger, they can request its removal. It’s like Content ID, but for faces!

The first wave of lucky creators got the heads-up via email this morning, with more to join the party in the coming months. But a word of caution: in its current beta state, the tool might flag videos featuring your actual face, not just the AI-altered versions. Oops!

This feature isn’t YouTube’s first rodeo with AI. It’s part of a broader push by YouTube and Google to tackle AI-generated content. Last March, YouTube rolled out a policy requiring creators to label AI-generated or altered uploads and cracked down on AI-generated music mimicking artists’ voices.

So, if you’re a creator worried about your face popping up in places it shouldn’t, YouTube’s got your back. With this AI tool, you can keep your likeness yours and say goodbye to unwanted deepfakes. Roll out the red carpet for a safer, more secure YouTube experience!
