If, like me, you know your Mandopop from your Cantopop - not to mention your generic C-Pop from your K-Pop or J-Pop - you'll be deeply familiar with Wang Leehom.
For the uninitiated (or those that can't be bothered to look him up on ChatGPT), Wang is a US-born purveyor of Mandarin-language, high-energy tunes across 25 studio albums that have sold over 60m copies. He has 72 million followers on social media, our most important metric of relevance, as well as 20+ film acting roles for the likes of Ang Lee and Jackie Chan.
But it's not (just) for the snappiness of his songs that Leehom troubles our Video of the Week section, in this first of 2026 - no, it's the rather excellent snappiness of his backing dancers. Because they are ruthlessly in sync, incredibly flexible and totally inhuman Unitree robots.
We've come across them before - doing fashion shoots and, erm, wielding weapons - but it's fair to say that each glimpse brings a little more awareness that, for all their fun, there is an increasing 'robot army' vibe to their abilities.
However, anyone that suffered through Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones knows that robot armies are pretty stupid - and no doubt Elon Musk, Palmer Luckey, Peter Thiel and the bros have got all this covered - so there's no need to reach for the tinfoil hat just yet. But do keep it somewhere close ...
Meanwhile, enjoy your burst of Mandopop as we enter the new year with excitement about what's to come in 2026 - and just check out that no-hands synchronised flip at the end!
Pēng!
