Video of the Week: Panther from UniX AI

What you're watching here is a really impressive demo of what a robot can possibly do now.
However, all I can think about is - "You called this 'panther'? This could not be less like a panther. A panther is sleek, elegant, fast, versatile. This is a very lumpy plastic thing that could not give me less 'panther' vibes if it was a 4-storey brick-built warehouse in Glasgow."
But let's put that aside for now.
Instead, behold just how absurdly capable this thing already is. We're talking autonomous cooking, alcohol-shot pouring with actual liquid control and embroidery that's apparently precise enough to make your nan nervous. It can play cards without fumbling the drops (not sure what game it is though, tbh) and even read a human interaction well enough to take a bag off someone and hang it up without turning it into a 70's slapstick sitcom scene.
Under the hood, it’s basically overkill in robot form. It glides sideways through tight spaces like it’s on rails, stretches from floor to full working height like a human who’s actually warmed up properly and those dual arms move with a level of dexterity that stops it looking like it’s constantly about to knock something over. There’s enough power in it to go from delicate handling to full-force movement in a heartbeat, which is a slightly unsettling combination when you think too hard about it (don't think too hard about it).
And the real trick is the brain behind it - learning tasks quickly while handling soft, fiddly objects without crushing them, which is usually where these things fall apart.
You can see exactly where this is going. Start in healthcare and commercial settings, prove it can survive a 9-to-5 without breaking something (or someone), and then … well, you know the rest.
Still, though - 'Panther'?
Really??
