OpenAI is stepping up its security game! Future access to some of its advanced AI models via the API might soon require a verified ID.
This new process, dubbed Verified Organization, aims to ensure that only eligible organisations can unlock the most cutting-edge models and capabilities on the OpenAI platform.
To get verified, organisations will need a government-issued ID from a country supported by OpenAI's API. But hold your horses! Each ID can only verify one organisation every 90 days, and not everyone will qualify.

OpenAI is committed to keeping AI both accessible and safe. This move is part of their strategy to prevent misuse of their APIs—a small number of developers have been naughty, violating usage policies. By adding this verification step, OpenAI hopes to curb unsafe AI usage while still supporting the developer community.
The verification process also aims to protect against IP theft. Earlier reports suggested that a group linked to DeepSeek, a China-based AI lab, may have exfiltrated data through OpenAI’s API. OpenAI has already blocked access to its services in China as a precaution.
So, if you're looking to tap into OpenAI's future AI models, get ready to verify and play by the rules!
