If you're in the market for a new home, you might want to add "neighbour reconnaissance" to your to-do list.

According to Rightmove, a whopping 36% of Brits have had a spat with their neighbours. To dodge these domestic dramas, savvy buyers are doing more than just peeking over the garden fence.

Picture this: potential buyers cruising by homes at all hours, expanding their search areas, and diving deep into local community forums to sniff out any neighbourly nuisances. Top gripes include noisy neighbours (78%), parking poachers (71%), and the ever-watchful curtain twitchers (70%). And if someone asks for your Wi-Fi password or lets their bins overflow, consider it a red flag!

Age and region add their own spice to this neighbourly stew. Young adults are particularly irked by noise (82%) and nosiness (73%), while the older crowd (55+) seems to have more disagreements (39%). The South East, it appears, is a hotbed for heated neighbourly exchanges (42%).

Colleen Babcock from Rightmove sums it up perfectly: "Neighbourly disputes are an inevitable part of community life, but our research highlights just how significantly these everyday annoyances can influence people’s decisions when moving home." So, as you embark on your house-hunting adventure, remember: a little neighbourly intel might just save you from a lifetime of "love thy neighbour" challenges!
