Microsoft's AI App Revolutionises Office Coordination

Microsoft has unveiled a solution to the challenge of coordinating office days in the era of hybrid working.

Meet Microsoft Places, an AI-powered app designed to work in harmony with Outlook and Microsoft Teams, ensuring businesses can effectively plan their in-office time.

The recent shift to flexible working models has seen employees spending less time in the office, leading to the need for smarter coordination. Microsoft Places, now in preview, is set to fill this gap. "With Places, you can more easily coordinate across coworkers and spaces in the office,” says Jared Spataro, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of AI at work.

The app features a location plan section where you can set and share your office days and view your co-workers' plans. Managers can also set up priority days for in-office plans, ensuring everyone is in the loop for important events or team days. This data then feeds into Outlook calendars, keeping everyone up-to-date with office events and plans.

Microsoft also plans to integrate Places into Microsoft Copilot later this year. You’ll be able to ask the AI assistant for office day suggestions based on in-person meetings, co-worker plans, and team events. The AI can even adjust your schedule based on this information.

Microsoft Places will also simplify booking meeting rooms or shared desks, with reminders sent to your calendar if you forget to book. This booking experience will also be integrated into Copilot later this year.

The location data from Places will feed into other Microsoft 365 apps, allowing colleagues working in Teams to see who else is in the office. Facilities management employees will also have access to a space analytics feature, providing insights into building usage and popular office days.

Microsoft Places will eventually be part of Microsoft Teams Premium, currently offered at an additional $7 per user per month. The package also includes an AI-powered intelligent recap feature, watermarking, and many other additional features.
