I’m always interested in how the other main classified verticals – the old ones that used to appear in the newspapers, such as cars and recruitment – are doing in technology, as there are always lessons to be learned there which can apply across into the property vertical too.

That’s why LinkedIn’s latest move is so important. The jobs portal – yes, it’s also a social network, but we can come back to that another time – announced recently that it’s introducing a new way to search for your dream role, by literally just describing it. If you want to be an ice-cream taster on a beach in the Med, or do something with your hands that involves kneading, you can just ask for it. (Estate agent jobs that you can do from your hot tub are also available to be searched, if not necessarily found.)

Which is why this is such an important template for the property search model too. What people are doing in one vertical they are going to naturally expect to happen in another. If I’m asking ChatGPT for my dream job and it’s hunting through LinkedIn for it, then I’m going to ask ChatGPT for my dream property too – and then what happens?

This is another canary in the mine for how AI is going to upend the way that property discovery is going to be conducted in the world of AI. What does it mean for Rightmove if people can bypass its Featured Properties using AI? What’s the point of its clunky, outdated search filters? Does that mean I can resist paying its exorbitant fees (the answer to this last one will be ‘yes, soon’.

If you’re interested in learning more about how AI is going to change your relationship with Rightmove, I’m about to embark on a free 60-locatiion, 60-day tour of Britain where we’ll be discussing this and more – all with a view of getting you ready to use these insights and new skills to win in the market you’re in.

Just head to modelprop.ai/resist to register and we’ll be in touch with the closest one to you. I’m looking forward to seeing you there.
