Inflection is shaking things up, folks!
Just five months after Microsoft hired its founders, the startup is introducing usage caps on its AI chatbot, Pi. According to TechCrunch, these changes come as Inflection pivots towards enterprise products under new CEO Sean White.
Inflection raised a whopping $1.3 billion last year to develop Pi, an "emotionally intelligent" AI chatbot. But the landscape changed dramatically when Microsoft swooped in, hiring away the founders and most of the team, and paying $650 million to license Inflection’s AI model. This move has caught the eye of antitrust regulators in both the U.S. and U.K., who are investigating Microsoft’s actions.
Initially, Inflection planned to sunset Pi due to resource constraints. However, White has now committed to keeping the consumer version of Pi alive, albeit with usage caps to manage GPU resources. These caps will mainly impact power users, though the exact limits are still being determined.

In a bid to set new industry standards, Inflection is allowing users to export their conversations off Pi. Partnering with the Data Transfers Initiative, users can move their chats elsewhere, although importing them to other chatbots like ChatGPT isn’t possible yet.
The future for Inflection looks enterprise-focused. White revealed that 13,000 organizations have expressed interest in API access to Pi. While the company can't cater to all these requests, it is selectively engaging with large banks, insurers, and Fortune 500 companies. Inflection aims to announce its first enterprise products and partnerships this autumn.
So, property professionals and business owners, keep an eye on Inflection’s next steps. Whether it’s data mobility or enterprise solutions, this startup is setting trends that could impact your tech strategies.
Stay tuned for more updates and keep innovating!
