It looks like Grok might soon become your new best friend in the world of spreadsheets.

A juicy leak suggests that xAI is cooking up an advanced file editor for Grok, complete with spreadsheet support. This move signals xAI’s ambition to tango with the big players like OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft by embedding AI copilots into productivity tools.

Imagine chatting with Grok while you’re knee-deep in spreadsheet cells, asking it to lend a hand with those tricky formulas or data entries. Reverse engineer Nima Owji, who spilled the beans, describes this as a game-changer for multitasking marvels.

While xAI hasn't officially laid out its blueprint for interactive, multimodal AI workspaces, there have been hints. Back in April 2025, xAI launched Grok Studio, a nifty split-screen workspace for collaborating with Grok on everything from documents to browser games. They also introduced Workspaces for organising files and conversations in one tidy spot.

Now, you might be thinking, "Hey, doesn't Google’s Gemini Workspace do something similar?" Well, yes, but it’s locked into Google’s ecosystem. Grok’s potential editor could offer a more versatile playground, although it’s still hush-hush on what file types it’ll support beyond spreadsheets.

If Owji’s leak holds water, this editor could be a stepping stone towards Elon Musk's dream of transforming X into an “everything app” encompassing docs, chat, payments, and social media. So, keep your eyes peeled, because Grok might just revolutionise how you crunch those numbers!
