Google has taken a giant leap forward in enhancing the online shopping experience with the introduction of AI-powered tools.
The tech giant's new Style Recommendations feature, currently rolling out to signed-in US users on Google's mobile website and apps, allows shoppers to rate items, helping the AI to learn their preferences.
Think of it as the Netflix or Tinder of shopping – you swipe (or, in this case, click) up or down on items, and the AI uses these ratings to refine its suggestions. Found a jacket you love? Simply give it a thumbs up, and the AI will suggest similar items you might like. You can also specify favourite brands, prompting the AI to instantly bring up more apparel from those selections.

These innovative tools follow Google's successful testing of AI features designed to help people find more of the items they like. The Search Generative Experience, trialled in November, introduced an image generation feature that assembles clothing based on prompts. Shoppers can then find similar items based on the AI-generated image.
In addition, Google has launched a virtual try-on feature, allowing shoppers to see how dresses from various brands would look on them. Both features are now live on Google Shopping.
Google's move into AI-powered shopping tools mirrors similar developments on other e-commerce platforms. Amazon, for example, offers Rufus, an AI shopping assistant that can answer customer queries about products and provide sizing recommendations.
However, as with any new technology, there are still some teething problems. Some users have reported that the AI shopping experience can be confusing and occasionally suggests questionable items. Despite these minor hiccups, Google's new AI tools are set to revolutionise the way we shop online.
