Google is bringing some AI magic to Chrome desktop with its new Gemini-powered features!
Announced Thursday, these updates include Google Lens for desktop, Tab Compare for shopping, and natural language integration for search history.
First up, Google Lens, a beloved mobile feature, is finally making its debut on desktop. Rolling out globally in the coming days, Lens will be accessible from the address bar and the three-dot menu. You can select parts of a page and ask questions to get search results. Fancy someone's backpack in a picture? Just tap on it, and multi-search will help you find similar items in different colours or brands. You can even find out how much sunlight a plant needs or get help with a tricky maths equation!
Next, meet Tab Compare, your new shopping assistant. This feature will provide an AI-powered summary of similar items across different tabs. Imagine you're hunting for a new Bluetooth speaker; Tab Compare will gather product specs, features, prices, and ratings in one convenient place, even if you’re browsing multiple pages.

One of the most exciting updates is the ability to search your browsing history using natural language queries. Can't remember that ice cream shop you looked up last week? No problem! Just ask, “What was that ice cream shop I looked at last week?” and Google will use a combination of URL, title, and page content to fetch your results. This AI-powered history search will be an opt-in feature for U.S. users, rolling out in the coming weeks.
Rest assured, Google won’t use this data to train Gemini, and it won’t surface any info from incognito sessions. While this feature currently relies on cloud capacity, it promises to make finding past pages a breeze.
Earlier this year, Google introduced AI-powered features like a writing assistant, tab organiser, and theme creator. In May, they added the ability to mention Gemini and ask questions directly from the address bar. Now, with these new features, Chrome desktop is smarter and more user-friendly than ever!
Stay tuned, property professionals and business owners, because these updates are set to make your browsing experience more efficient and enjoyable!
