Generation Rent has turned up the heat, demanding bold changes to the Renters Reform Bill.

Their latest rallying cry? A rent-free two-month period for tenants evicted due to landlords selling or moving family into properties. Talk about making waves!

As the Bill sails through Parliament, Generation Rent insists it could go further. Their wishlist includes rent caps to prevent unfair hikes, ensuring rents don’t outpace inflation or wage growth. They’re also pushing for tenant relocation relief, which would see landlords waive two months' rent to help cover moving costs when evictions aren’t the tenant's fault.

Guarantor requirements are also under fire. Generation Rent wants restrictions on when landlords can demand them, ensuring they’re only used when absolutely necessary. Plus, they’re calling for a robust eviction notice database to curb misuse, inspired by Scotland's tenancy agreements.

And let’s not forget the housing shortage! The group is urging the government to build more affordable and social homes, tailored to diverse needs, including those of Disabled people.

Generation Rent believes these changes will prevent tenants from being priced out of their homes and provide the security they deserve. With these demands, they’re not just shaking up the conversation—they’re setting the stage for a fairer rental market.
