So, how does it work? If you’re a subscriber to Google One AI Premium or have the Gemini add-on for Workspace, you’re in luck. When you open a new draft, you’ll see a “Help me write” shortcut. Tap it, and Gemini will draft text for you. But the magic doesn’t stop there! Once your draft has 12 or more words, a new “Refine my draft” shortcut appears in grey letters below your text.

Swipe your thumb across the text, and voila! You can choose to Polish, Formalise, Elaborate, or Shorten your draft. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even have Gemini write a whole new draft for you. And don’t worry if the “Refine my draft” shortcut doesn’t show up immediately—tapping the pencil icon does the trick too.
Google has also made it more intuitive to use these AI tools by adding shortcuts directly in the body of your emails on Android and iOS. This makes it super obvious that you have these powerful writing aids at your fingertips.
