Google is spicing things up with a splash of Gemini colours on Nest Audio speakers.
If you’re part of the Google Home Public Preview, you might have noticed a vibrant blue and purple light show when you chat with your speaker. This colourful twist comes as part of Google’s testing of a Gemini-powered upgrade for Assistant, adding a dash of flair to your daily commands.
Nest Audio users running Cast firmware 3.75.468348 are the lucky ones experiencing this change, while the 2nd-gen Nest Mini sits this one out, possibly due to hardware limitations. Nest Hubs haven’t joined the party yet, but we’re curious to see if they’ll get a Gemini glow-up similar to the Google TV experience.

This colourful update raises intriguing branding questions. Last year, Google announced plans to enhance Assistant with Gemini models, but kept the familiar “Google Assistant” name for Home devices. Meanwhile, mobile platforms embraced the Gemini brand. Fast forward to CES 2025, and Google revealed that Android and Google TV would get the Gemini treatment, now known as “Gemini on Google TV.”
Could “Gemini on Nest” be next? It seems Google is leaning towards a unified Gemini brand across its devices. While “Google Assistant” is a household name, consolidating under Gemini could streamline the user experience and branding. Stay tuned as Google continues to weave Gemini magic into its smart home lineup!
