The price of DDR5 RAM is climbing again, thanks to a global memory shortage spurred by the AI boom.

Framework, the modular PC maker, has announced a new price hike, with costs now at about $10 per gigabyte.

This surge is due to increased demand for memory hardware, leaving companies like Framework with no choice but to adjust their prices. Earlier, Samsung doubled its DDRM RAM prices, and giants like Lenovo, Dell, and HP have hinted at upcoming price hikes for laptops.

Framework's latest increase sees 8GB of RAM jump from $60 to $80, 16GB from $120 to $160, and 32GB from $240 to $320. The larger modules are even more eye-watering—48GB has skyrocketed from $240 to $620!

The company warns that this trend will likely continue into early 2026, with further adjustments expected. The AI industry's insatiable appetite for memory means this shortage could persist until 2027.

So, if you're eyeing a new laptop or smartphone, now might be the time to act before prices climb even higher.
