A recent survey by Landbay has uncovered a surprising trend among landlords: one in twenty is blissfully unaware of their property's Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating.

With a government deadline looming, all rental properties must achieve at least a C rating by 2030, or face hefty fines. Yet, over half of landlords with properties below this standard are procrastinating on necessary upgrades.

The survey reveals that 58% of landlords plan to wait until the deadline approaches to make improvements, while a mere 18% are eager to upgrade sooner. Alarmingly, 6% have no plans to upgrade at all, despite continuing to rent out their properties.

Currently, 35% of landlords report their properties are below a C rating, while 50% boast a C or higher. Interestingly, landlords with 11 to 20 properties are the most likely to have lower-rated properties, with 36% in the D to G range. Meanwhile, 27% of those with four to ten properties fall into this category.

Rob Stanton from Landbay warns that delaying upgrades could lead to trouble. With a national shortage of skilled workers, landlords risk missing the deadline and facing fines. It's time for landlords to get proactive, or they might find themselves in a bit of a pickle!
