DeepL, the translation whiz known for its text prowess, is now venturing into the world of voice translation.

Recently, they unveiled a voice-to-voice translation suite designed for everything from meetings to mobile and web chats, and even group conversations for frontline workers via custom apps.

But wait, there’s more! DeepL is also rolling out an API, allowing developers and businesses to build on their tech for tailored uses, like call centres. CEO Jarek Kutylowski highlights the challenge of balancing low latency with high accuracy in real-time translation.

DeepL is offering nifty add-ons for platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, where listeners can enjoy real-time translations or follow along with translated text on-screen. This programme is currently in early access, and organisations are invited to join the waitlist. Plus, there’s a mobile and web-based product for both in-person and remote conversations.

For group chats, like training sessions or workshops, participants can join via a QR code. DeepL’s tech is smart enough to learn custom vocabulary, including industry-specific terms and names.

Kutylowski envisions AI reshaping customer service, making it easier for companies to offer support in languages where skilled staff are hard to find. Although DeepL’s current system involves converting speech to text, translating, and then back to speech, they aim to develop an end-to-end model that skips the text step entirely.

Facing competition from startups like Sanas, Camb.AI, and Palabra, DeepL is diving headfirst into the voice translation arena. With their text translation expertise, they’re poised to make quite the splash!
