Conveyancers: Not Sole Culprits in Delays

The Conveyancing Task Force (CTF) is setting the record straight: conveyancers aren't the only ones to blame for those pesky property transaction delays.
In a letter to MPs and the HCLG Select Committee, this coalition of conveyancing experts sheds light on the real culprits behind the sluggish system.
The CTF points out that buyers and sellers are often caught in a web of mortgage complications, survey renegotiations, leasehold issues, and complex property chains. Add to that the mounting legal complexities and overloaded conveyancing models, and you've got a recipe for delays and stress.
Stephen Larcombe, CTF's spokesperson, emphasises that conveyancing is a professional legal service, not just ticking boxes. The group argues that while modernising processes is great, it won't solve the deeper structural issues. They call for better professional supervision, accountability, and a focus on consumer impact.

The CTF warns against oversimplifying the problem and urges policymakers to listen to those in the trenches. They stress the importance of not letting big commercial interests overshadow the real challenges faced by consumers and conveyancers alike.
So, next time you're stuck in a property transaction limbo, remember: it's not just about paperwork. It's about tackling the structural snags that keep the wheels from turning smoothly. Let's hope for reforms that truly address these issues, making the property market a happier place for all!
