Sam Altman's eye-scanning venture, World, is making waves as it launches in the U.S. with six locations.

Originally named Worldcoin, this project aims to combat fraud and bots by using iris scans and blockchain technology for global identity verification.

Here's the scoop: Approach an Orb, let it scan your face and iris for about 30 seconds, and voilà! You receive a unique "IrisCode" proving you're human and get some free cryptocurrency, WLD. Your World ID can then be used to sign in on platforms like Minecraft, Reddit, and more.

Starting Thursday, you can pop into one of the six flagship locations in Austin, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Nashville, Miami, and San Francisco to get your eyeballs scanned. Plus, exciting partnerships are in the works, including a World Visa card and a Tinder pilot program in Japan.

At the "At Last" event in San Francisco, attendees got a live demo of the Orb, powered by Nvidia's Jetson processor. World plans to deploy 7,500 Orbs by year-end and open an assembly line in Texas.

Despite some controversy over data storage, World assures us that personal data is decentralised and secure. With 26 million people already on board, World aims to reach one billion users, though it's moving slower than expected. Stay tuned for more eye-opening developments!
