Apple, the tech giant known for its innovation, is reportedly pouring millions of pounds into artificial intelligence (AI) every day.
This hefty investment, as reported by The Information, is being channelled into the development of multiple AI models across various teams within the company.
The unit working on conversational AI, known as "Foundational Models", boasts around 16 members, including several ex-Google engineers. The team is led by John Giannandrea, Apple's head of AI, who was brought on board in 2018 to enhance Siri's capabilities. Interestingly, Giannandrea has previously expressed doubts about the usefulness of AI-powered chatbots.
However, the AI development at Apple doesn't stop there. The company's Visual Intelligence unit is busy creating an image generation model. Another team is delving into the realm of "multimodal AI", which can recognise and produce images or videos as well as text.
These AI models could serve a multitude of purposes. For instance, a chatbot is being developed to interact with customers using AppleCare. Another model aims to simplify the automation of multi-step tasks with Siri.
According to insiders, Apple's most advanced Large Language Model (LLM), known internally as Ajax GPT, is more potent than OpenAI's GPT-3.5. This model, trained on "more than 200 billion parameters", was initially created for internal use and remains relatively restricted within the company.
With such significant investment and innovative development, Apple's AI venture could be a game-changer in the tech industry. It's a space worth watching for any property professionals and business owners keen to stay ahead of the curve.
