Amazon Music is stepping into the realm of AI-generated playlists with its new product, Maestro.
This AI playlist generator, currently in beta testing, allows U.S. users on both iOS and Android to create personalised playlists using written or spoken prompts, even emojis!
The process is simple: users input prompts that can include activities, sounds, or emotions, and within seconds, an AI-generated playlist appears, theoretically matching the user's input. Amazon does warn that as Maestro is in its beta phase, it may not always hit the right note on the first try.

Just like Spotify, Amazon has put in place measures to block offensive language and inappropriate prompts. However, Maestro isn't widely available yet. It's currently only accessible to a subset of free Amazon Music users, Prime customers, and Unlimited Amazon Music subscribers in the U.S.
The service offers more functionality to subscribers, such as instant playlist listening and saving for later. Non-subscribers can only listen to 30-second song previews before saving, a move that might encourage more users to upgrade to the paid subscription.
To use Maestro, users need the latest version of the Amazon Music mobile app. They can then tap on the Maestro option on their home screen or when creating a new playlist. Amazon suggests a range of prompts, from the emotional to the downright silly, to inspire users in their playlist creation.
As for when Maestro will roll out more broadly, Amazon remains tight-lipped, stating only that it will expand to more customers over time.
