Alibaba has entered the smart glasses arena with its new Quark AI Glasses, aiming to outshine competitors like Meta.

Priced at $536 for the S1 model and $268 for the G1, these glasses are packed with features that make them more than just a fashion statement.

The Quark AI Glasses are powered by Alibaba's Qwen AI models, akin to ChatGPT, and are integrated with the Qwen app. This means users can command their glasses with voice control, making them a handy tool for on-the-go translation, AI-generated meeting notes, and even virtual shopping assistance. Snap a picture of a product, and the glasses will fetch its price on Taobao, Alibaba's shopping platform.

The S1 and G1 differ mainly in their display capabilities, but both models boast a camera within the frame and lens screens. Alibaba's venture into smart glasses is a strategic move to capture a slice of the burgeoning AI consumer market, where it will face off against domestic rivals like Xiaomi and Xreal.

While the market for AI glasses is still in its infancy, it's projected to grow rapidly, with shipments expected to surpass 10 million units by 2026. Alibaba is banking on this trend, leveraging its AI prowess and recent successes, such as the Qwen app's 10 million downloads during its beta launch.

As Alibaba continues to invest in AI, its smart glasses represent a significant step in its consumer AI strategy, setting the stage for an exciting showdown with tech giants like Meta.
