YouTube Shorts is swimming in AI-generated content, and according to Kapwing, a video-editing firm, a whopping 21% of it is what they call "AI slop."
That's right—nonsensical, low-quality clips that might just melt your brain!
Kapwing's deep dive into YouTube Shorts revealed that out of 500 videos, 104 were AI-generated. Even more shocking, 33% of these were deemed "brainrot," content so low-quality it could corrode your mental state. Yikes!
Globally, South Korea tops the charts in slop consumption, with channels racking up a staggering 8.25 billion views. "Three Minutes Wisdom," featuring wild animals hilariously bested by household pets, alone boasts 2.02 billion views. Pakistan and the US follow closely, with billions of views on their top slop channels.

But YouTube isn't the only platform feeling the AI pinch. As of May 2025, over half the web's articles are AI-generated. And in the workplace, 40% of US employees have encountered "workslop"—AI content masquerading as meaningful work, particularly in IT and consulting.
Meanwhile, TikTok is taking a stand, rolling out features to help users spot and avoid AI-generated content. So, if you're scrolling through Shorts, keep your wits about you—AI slop might just be around the corner!
