In a bid to advance its artificial intelligence capabilities, Adobe Inc. is shelling out cash to procure videos for its AI text-to-video generator.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the software behemoth is offering $120 to its network of photographers and artists for videos of people performing everyday actions or expressing a range of emotions. The ultimate goal? To gather assets for AI training.

Over the past year, Adobe has been laser-focused on incorporating generative AI features into its renowned software suite, including Photoshop and Illustrator. The company has already rolled out tools that transform text into images and illustrations, which have been utilised billions of times.

However, the unveiling of OpenAI's video-generation model, Sora, has ignited investor concerns that Adobe could be left in the dust by this emerging technology. In response, Adobe has announced its venture into video-generation technology, with more details to be revealed later this year.

Adobe's current call to action involves more than 100 short clips of people engaged in various actions, expressing emotions, and simple anatomy shots. The company is also seeking videos of people interacting with everyday objects. The payment for these submissions averages at about $2.62 per minute of submitted video.

The source of data used to build AI models has been a hot topic of debate and controversy. Adobe is setting itself apart by primarily training its models on its extensive library of stock media. When the stock library doesn't suffice, Adobe directly procures images from contributors, offering pay for mass submissions of photos for AI training.

With this new venture, Adobe is gearing up to compete in the AI space, promising an exciting future for content creation.
