Snapchat is doubling down on its commitment to authentic creativity on Spotlight, aiming to make it a haven for original, human-made content. In a recent update, Snapchat announced that its recommendation systems will now prioritise genuine creativity, excluding wholly AI-generated videos from being eligible for recommendation.
With the internet awash in low-quality, repetitive AI content, Snapchat wants Spotlight to be a sanctuary for real creativity from real people. The platform believes in the enduring value of rewarding original perspectives and personal storytelling. This move is already resonating, with the number of unique Spotlight contributors globally soaring by more than 120% compared to last year.
While no detection system is perfect, Snapchat's goal is clear: to keep Spotlight a place where authentic creativity thrives. This isn't about rejecting AI entirely, as Snapchat acknowledges the role AI can play in the creative process. Content enhanced or edited using Snapchat's AI tools will still be eligible for recommendation, complete with transparency indicators.
As more creators flock to Spotlight to share their unique voices, Snapchat is committed to investing in experiences that reward originality, ensuring that Spotlight remains a special place for authentic creativity to shine.
