Anthropic's latest privacy policy update might have you reaching for your ID!

The AI giant now requires some users to verify their age and identity by uploading government-issued documents. This move aims to help users appeal flagged accounts for potential fraud, rather than facing outright bans. But, it also comes amid some political tension with the Trump administration over access to Anthropic's AI tools.

While Anthropic has always required users to be over 18, the new policy, effective from July 8, adds identity checks to the mix. Users flagged for verification will need to upload a passport or driver's licence, along with a selfie or video. This data, including a face geometry template, will be stored, raising eyebrows over privacy concerns.

This policy shift might help Anthropic navigate legal and regulatory challenges, especially as it grapples with the Trump administration over cybersecurity models. Despite these hurdles, Anthropic remains committed to user safety and compliance.
