Remember Friend, the AI wearable that promised to be your digital confidant? Well, it's back with a voice and a heftier price tag! Tech founder Avi Schiffmann has unveiled Friend 2.0, now equipped with a built-in speaker that projects a unique personality, all for the new retail price of £249, up from its original £99.

In a new advert, Friend is seen chatting with users about everything from ex-girlfriends to filmmaking dreams. "It's not bad to be gay," it reassures one user, while praising another's cinematic endeavours with, "That last film you made was insane!" But what else can Friend do besides chitchat? The specifics remain as mysterious as ever.

Schiffmann describes Friend as a confidant, possibly even a deity, but definitely not an assistant or a lover. Bold claims for a digital necklace, wouldn’t you say? This isn't the first time the company has dabbled in audacious marketing. Their NYC subway billboards went viral, albeit for being defaced by those wary of replacing human connection with tech.

While AI wearables haven’t yet won over the masses, Friend's latest iteration is certainly making waves. Will it succeed where others, like Humane Inc.'s AI pin, failed? Only time will tell if this talking trinket is the future of companionship or just another tech novelty.
