Uber Eats is spicing up its user experience by introducing an AI-powered assistant and broadening its payment options.

The company announced these exciting changes on Wednesday, promising a more curated and convenient service for its users.

The AI assistant will help food lovers explore a variety of culinary delights and find tantalising deals. Additionally, Uber Eats will feature a dedicated section called "Sales Aisle" to highlight promotional offers. These enhancements are set to roll out either later this year or in 2024.

AI is becoming a hot ingredient in the food delivery industry, with companies investing in this technology to offer personalised services. For instance, Instacart launched "Ask Instacart" in May, an AI-powered tool that assists customers with their grocery shopping queries. Similarly, DoorDash is developing an AI chatbot, "DashAI", to expedite food ordering.

Uber is also expanding its payment options, partnering with federal healthcare programs like Managed Medicaid and Medicare Advantage. From 2024, Uber and Uber Eats will start accepting relevant waiver payments. Moreover, recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will be able to use their waivers to purchase groceries on Uber Eats in 2024.

This move indicates a strategic push to reach low-income households and secure a larger slice of the market share, mirroring efforts by competitors DoorDash and Instacart, which already accept SNAP waivers on their platforms. As competition heats up, Uber Eats' latest enhancements could be the secret sauce to winning over more customers.
